Don't judge me, but this was my first time at Union Loafers. I know...hard to believe. Sure I've had their bread as a sandwich at other local eats, but first time visiting their location. Wanted something light, so I ordered the fresh ricotta and "burnt" toast along with the Ceasar salad...to go. While waiting for my order (not very long), I had my new summer fav--a glass of orange wine. Oh yeah, throw in one of those dark chocolate chip sea salt cookies . Everything was fresh and tasty. Staff was super friendly and attentive.

Finally found a loaf of bread worth, "breaking." I moved to the St Louis area several months ago - from the west coast. I have also traveled in Europe. Bread in those places cannot be wadded up into a doughball and used as bait (without a sinker... it IS the sinker). I asked around - on that "Neighborhood" site and among my new neighbors, etc. I received a number of recommendations, all of which were nothing like what I was seeking... Basically all, "sandwich breads." (Really? Have they never been to decent Italian restaurant?) So I did something unusual. I called one of the west coast bakeries, Grand Central (headquartered in Portland, OR) and they told me to check out Union Loafers. So I did. (Can you believe that... That west coast bakery KNEW of Union Loafers. That alone is testament to the quality.) Thus far, Union Loafers produces the BEST loaf of bread - likely in the entire region. That's right. Was it comparable to Grand Central's Peasant Levain? No, but close enough. The crust was good, but the crumb was too soft. I am not going to try to contact Union Loafers, but maybe someone in the organization reads these reviews(?). If so, and they would like a more indepth "opinion" from me... I would gladly oblige.

Visited Union Loafers on a Saturday afternoon based on recommendations from friends! We got lucky and was seated at the bar. We had an amazing waitress and ordered the bottomless iced tea. We got it with lemon and simple syrup, super refreshing and fast refills. We ordered the special pastrami sandwich but wanted to try a side. Our waitress told us we could make it like a u-pick two by splitting the sandwhich and a side so we did that with the gem salad including bacon. Gem salad was incredibly delicious. I loved the fresh dill on top. The bacon was good, salty and fatty. The pastrami sandwich was also good but the mustard spread was a bit too spicy -- definitely made my head feel numb a couple times. Overall great experience and a nice place to grab a quick lunch. Highly recommend!

The best bread I've ever had!!! Holy smokes. I can see why people love this place! I got the semolina sourdough -- the crust was crunchy, the inside was fluffy and beautifully soft. When you press on it, the inside jiggles but the crust remains solidly intact. It's crusted with yummy sesame seeds. Wow. This is what bread should be!! Also have you ever seen a more beautiful loaf???? And for just $6.50!!

Came in for a quick lunch with my DD who goes to school nearby. I'm so mad that I had recently had breakfast before she called me because I didn't get the pleasure of tasting anything however my daughter was very impressed. She ordered the lunch special half sandwich (turkey and Swiss) and half little gem salad and I ordered the cheesy bread. Let me tell you it was all delicious!!! From the moment we walked in this cute little spot and smelled the delicious breads wafting through the air we knew it was going to be good and we were right. Our server was very friendly and very attentive the entire time and tried to convince us to order the chocolate chip cookie to go since we were so full. It took all our willpower not to get but we will be back!!!

If you are going to stake your entire reputation as a company on a specific product, you better be dang good at producing that product. Well, Union Loafers is beyond dang good at baking a loaf. They are simply the best. Walking in is a dream as you are met with the wonderful aroma of freshly baked loaves and greeted by a welcoming worker. The place is bustling. The kind of bustling that lets you know you are about to eat something life changing. I stopped in for the bistro beef. I was not expecting it to be a cold cut, nonetheless, absolutely remarkable. Every single flavor so delicately complemented each other. Truly, one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. The baguette is the star of the show here. A browned, crispy crust houses some of the softest bread you will ever eat. The pickled peppers provide that crunch to round out the chewiness of the roast beef. The peppers bring just enough sour and tang to catch you off guard. The roast beef is slow roasted. Fatty, salty, succulent. The bistro sauce deserves an award. It is tangy, salty, spicy. I have no idea what they put in it, but it seems to be some sort of combination of a garlic aioli and dijon mustard. I would buy it by the barrel of they'd let me! Of course, I also snagged one of their signatures loaves. It was so good. I ended up making some garlic croutons with it, and some garlic bread. That bread is so addictive. The service is amazing and the place is always bustling. So, if you are dining in, be prepared to wait. They have 2 lines: 1 to just but bakery goods, and one to actually grab a table for lunch with them! Next up on the list is to try some of their pizza, chocolate chip cookies, and pretzels! Union Loafers: please, never change. Sincerely, All of St. Louis.

Ordered rolls for Easter and I could have cried. They were so delicious and perfect. Even without butter brush on the tops of them they would have been perfect but I still put it on there. Gonna miss this place when we move.
